Car Rental Overview

How does it work, renting a car?

When you rent a car from Adriaanse Autoverhuur, you can expect everything to be taken care of. However, we understand that you’ve never rented a car before and are wondering how it all works.

How much does that cost?

At Adriaanse Car Rental, we don’t like all sorts of hidden fees. Especially not fees you only discover when you pick up the car, or worse, when you receive the invoice.

Our costs consist of five components:

  • The rental of the car
  • The insurance package, which is optional by the way.
  • Any kilometers above your free kilometers
  • Fuel
  • The VAT

That’s it. So you don’t have to pay extra for excess reduction, passenger insurance, additional drivers, roadside assistance, windshield insurance, tire insurance, or international coverage, because it’s all included in the insurance package. Moreover, we don’t charge any extraneous fees like age surcharges, weekend surcharges, refueling surcharges, preparation costs, or administration fees.

The reservation

The first step is reserving the car. This is not mandatory. If the car of your choice is available, you can also rent it directly without a reservation. However, it is recommended to make a reservation. This way, you can be sure your car will be ready.

Reserving a car is free. If you reserve a minivan, we require a deposit to confirm your reservation. This does not apply to all other cars.

Picking up the car

You can collect your car from 6am in the morning (on Sundays between 8am and 9am).

If you need to leave early, you can also pick up the car the evening before your first rental day. We’ll call you as soon as the car is available, and you can pick it up between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. You won’t pay any rental fees for this, but you will only pay one extra day’s insurance. The car must be insured. This service is based on availability. If the car isn’t back yet, we obviously can’t give it to you.

What should I bring with me when I pick up the car?

When you arrive at our counter, we will ask you for the following three documents:

  1. Your driver’s license, which has not expired
  2. Your passport or ID card, which has not expired
  3. A document to confirm your address. This could be a payslip, a bank statement, an invoice for an online order, a letter from the municipality, or an energy bill. This document may not be older than one month.

We will scan your identification documents and check their authenticity and validity. Naturally, your Citizen Service Number (BSN) will be redacted on these scans to prevent misuse.

If you rent a car for business purposes, we will ask you for an extract from the Chamber of Commerce.

You can pay the deposit in cash, by debit card, bank transfer, iDeal, or by credit card (VISA or Mastercard). We will deduct the costs from this deposit.

Due to stricter requirements from our insurance company, we must ask you to pay a portion of the deposit, at least €0.01, electronically when paying in cash.

If you pay your deposit by debit card, we will refund the remaining amount via a debit card refund, or we will refund the deposit to your account. If you pay your deposit via iDeal or bank transfer, we will refund the remaining amount to your account.

If you guarantee with your credit card, we will hold the deposit on your credit card but will not debit it. Upon your return, you can pay the invoice amount by debit card or cash, and we will then process the reservation on your credit card.

Please note!  If you live abroad, you can only act as a guarantor with a credit card (Visa or Mastercard). A €2,000 hold will be placed on your credit card. This amount will be released once the car is returned.

The car will then be inspected with you. Any damage will be noted on a damage report.

During the rental

You can also count on our service during your rental period. Should anything arise, we’re available 24/7. During business hours (Monday to Saturday, 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sunday, 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM), you can simply call our landline: 040-2513859. Outside business hours, there’s an emergency number where someone is always available. This emergency number is listed on our answering machine.

Returning the car

When you return the car, we’ll inspect it and refuel it for you. There are no charges for refueling, other than the fuel itself, of course. We’ll then prepare an invoice and discuss it with you.

If you paid your deposit in cash, you’ll receive the remaining balance back in cash immediately. If you paid your deposit by debit card, we’ll refund the remaining balance to your account on the next business day. If you guaranteed with your credit card, you can pay the invoice amount by debit card or cash, and we’ll process the reservation on your credit card.

Rent on account
